The Heroine We Didn’t Know We Need: Chi Bondoc

In campus club culture, you’re lucky to be able to work with a stellar batch of officers.  Everyone wishes they won’t graduate yet. A loss of a great leader sends ripples to the communities they supported.

Such is the story of Francesca “Chi” Bondoc, a 4th year Cyber Security major at Holy Angel University (HAU) who became co-founder of the North & Central Luzon Esports Association (NCLE).

She passed away last August 7 at 22 years old. An avid gamer, she enjoyed playing VALORANT and Left4Dead on if she could fit it in her busy schedule. “Rineceruit ko po siya,” shared Lou Russel, her co-founder. “Hindi po mahalaga sa akin ang knowledge about esports and hanap ko po integrity.”

He found that and more in Chi’s amazing track record in leadership and community engagement. She was the 2023-2024 Vice Chairperson in the School of Computing Council on top of being the Community Development Director for NCLE, and Floor Director for the Alliance Games North & Central Luzon Finals. She was also nominated for the HAU’s esteemed Angelite of the Year award.

With the Alliance Games Regionals S5 nearing, the NCL committee wishes to continue her good work in fostering a stronger campus esports community within the region. Chi is a great example of what esports communities can achieve if you open its doors to hidden gems.
